Those of you who know my family may know that I have a nephew, Benjamin Allred, that is fighting cancer. Benjamin is my brother John's youngest child and they live in Alaska. On March 6, Johnny and Ben will be participating in a fundraiser where Ben will shave Johnny bald for cancer research. Awesome, right?!

Here is more info taken from John's family's blog, Ben's Wild Adventure:
St. Baldricks
What does Benjamin Allred plus a pair of hair clippers plus St. Baldrick’s children’s cancer research fundraiser equal . . . John with no hair! One year ago today Benjamin was diagnosed with ATRT brain cancer. We are extremely grateful for the incredible support and the prayers on behalf of our family over this past year.
On March 6 Ben and I will be participating in the St. Baldricks Foundation fundraiser held at McGinley’s Pub here in Anchorage. We are gathering pledges from folks who would like to see me lose my hair to benefit children’s cancer research.
If you too would like to see me lose my hair for a cause you can go online to www.StBaldricks.org, click on “Donate” and search for my name (John Allred) as the participant to support. Thank you again for all you have done for our family this past year. This is a year with Ben we would not have been able to have without your kind and generous assistance!
Here is Ben's story from the St. Baldricks website:
Benjamin A.
LOCATION: Anchorage, AK, US
AGE: 2
Ben is a happy, active two-year-old. Other than the bald spot on the front of his head you would never know he is fighting a deadly cancer. No matter who he has interacted with through this wild adventure, Ben has been full of light. He seems to know just the right time to run up to a nurse and give them a big hug, or how to give just the right smile through the window to a passer-by when he was in isolation.
Ben had an ATRT (Atypical Teritoid Rhabdoid Tumor) tumor. This is a very aggressive form of brain cancer. Last February, about this time we noticed that his left eye crossed. On February 23rd he went to the eye doctor, then to PICU that night, then left the next morning for Seattle and Houston for brain surgery, chemo, radiation, and in August came home to Anchorage and is under observation. The odds are not strong, but we are living the miracle and hope to have Ben with us for a long, long time . . .

Johnny and Ben are still looking for pledges, so if anyone is interested follow the directions in Johnny's blog entry above. Thanks for supporting Ben and this awesome cause!
